Day 2 @ rws uss pt2
Cont USS pt 2. Yes, the transformers ride! For this, i borrowed the pic that's from my brother's blog. We went in, and there's a strange alien thingy trapped inside the glass. Since the que kept moving, we didn't get close enough to see what is it really all about. This was a second ride, and what everyone was rushing for from the beginning was this, because the que was like just here and not other places. Since we were early, we got to seat the ride pretty much in a short time.
We got in further, and there is a screen showing us the briefing, more like to kill time maybe, because it can take quite long to get inside. There was a counter where they ask you to take the glasses. Now these are indeed 3d glasses, and they were so plasticy and scratched up. Not to mention the oily surface left by other people, just yuck. But to think it can be made so cheaply like these and not having to give extra care, i am starting to wonder if those 3d glasses sold by famous brand are actually jacked up prices. Gimmick aside, this plastic glass does it job, just like how jaws 3d cheap paper blue and red works.
Not long after, we managed to get in and sit for the ride. Now during this time, i held a camcorder trying to record the entire thing. But they say no camera allowed. Bummer. So i said fine, but didn't switch it off. I lowered it and tried to adjust the angle without seeing the lcd screen. It was a horrible shoot i can tell. Firstly, i don't know how the 3d is generated, but the camcorder just captured weird images. I've learned my lesson that not everything can be shown through the video, but you gotta experience it yourself. The seats rocked back and forth, forward and reverse, tilted and turn. And there's also heat coming out of nowhere as if you are right there with the transformers themselves.
Right after we got out of the place, our feets were quite shaking because it's just that intense. Now we did come all the way here just for this ride, and it ended in a flash. So what to do next? We don't really know so we walked around and see what interest us. We then saw the roller coaster that has this insane twist and 2 of it will just cross each other. This was the only ride that we didn't seat because we thought that'd just make the rest of our day wasted. Not very good getting dizzy. We then headed for the castle where Shrek and the 4d ride is.
It's probably past an hour by then, and the crowd is really getting huge. The line for the castle is just tad long, we waited even longer. It's a cinema-like screening where 400 people can seat at one go. Each screening last probably 15 minutes, so that explains the wait. And before getting in, there's a preview where they showed things up on the wall with lcd tv. After that we went inside and grabbed a seat, where they have carefully arranged in such a way that you wont have to fight for it. Now the placement of where I seat is important, because depending on where you are, the 3d effect that comes right at your face, is different. If i am at far edge, i don't think i'd get the same thrill as in the middle. Oh and be careful of the water splash and creepy crawlers. LOL.
Day 2 @ rws uss
Day 2
And we're at Day 2, in the morning! So our family got ready very early in the morning and got prepared to enter the USS. We were there quite early and first to get in line. It is about to open soon, and i am pumped ! Adreleline rises to a level i can't breathe properly. LOL.
And it comes the time, the gate was opened, the que behind us was getting super long. We showed our ticket and they gave an invisible chop on our hand. Only then later i discovered it is a UV ray chop to identify whether it's legit or not. And i even thought of cheating my way in. I talked about the plan and forgot about the chop. LOL. Before we got in, there's alot of shops just outside of USS. And not to forget it has hersheys. Ahh, the ever delicious chocolate. There are some shops selling candies too. Even as an adult, all of it is just so tempting. There are some stuff they sell that I can't find elsewhere, not even in airport. To buy, or not to buy, that is the question. I have developed a no chocolate diet, because of a lactose intolerant case, and that is just too sad for me. I can only look at it, drool over it, and just take some photos back. My bro did managed to buy the one with peanut. Lot's of times we tried to convert the price back to our local currency because we are at the weaker side of it, and it seems pretty reasonable. But of course even back then we didn't hunt around the shops to check on their prices, so we just assumed it's ok. Part of travelling to a country that has stronger dollar is to spend wisely, but there are times when this is just a futile effort. Haha.
And ones the gates are opened, off we go! I was surprised that we were one of the first to line up in the que. All thanks to my bro who suggested that we need to get up early and get in line quick. But I was skeptical because I said, it's a monday, as if this' a working day you know? Boy was i wrong. And not long after we started walking leisurely, we saw lots of people rushed by us. We thought, what's wrong? Why are they in a hurry the rides are still plentiful. And we being a tourist, although having the kiasu blood, did not see a need to act like one that day. Only to realize that we probably should hurry up, or else we'd have to que up hours for the most popular rides. They went past us, while there were few rides just beside us, so we being a noob, just say let's just go into this one. The room is set up very strange, and as we walked in, there were danger signs and alerts. We stepped in and the audio starts talking. And a projector of things start to show what's happening. It's a shipwreck! We are standing on top of the rail, and it began to have lots of elements playing, fires going out, wind, explosion, and finally a ship came into the picture. That as an entry point to the rest of the day, is not bad at all.
Well, then, the place for the resort and it's shops were already quite big, so how much can they still fit it the theme park? Alot. It's almost the same size and to finish everything in one day, you'd be quite insane. We walked up further and decide to hop in whichever was on our way. Later on we figured its not a good idea, because by then our most wanted ride will be too packed with people. Namely, the transformers ride in 4d.
Cont 2 @ USS trip
Cont @ USS trip.
Not long in flight since we were quite close to each other, we finally landed in Singapore! It has been a really long time for me since I came to sg, and I don't recall much of the things and places around here. We took the taxi from the airport and headed to resort world sentosa(rws). It was a wise choice we decided to stay here for the trip, because our main purpose is to checkin at USS. There are other parts of sg that's of interest but we'll leave it for another trip itself.
Rws is a very interesting place. I have never really been to a place that's wholly owned by a resort that is so big. They build this entire place on an Island, and surprisingly even though it is in sg itself, the locals here rarely visit this Island. We found out about it when my brother questioned uncle that lives here, whether his family had played at USS before, and they said no. Of course judging by one family is inconclusive, but it makes sense. Even my family hadn't been to certain parts of the resorts and attractions in our country, regardless of how famous it is worldwide. Speaking of which, there is a Legoland that has just launched at time of writing, and if you ask me do i have the urge to try it out? Nope. One of the reasons is because it is in my own country. Sad to say i am not that excited, and it somehow is less superior to uss, that i can tell. But i'd wait for more reviews before i make the final decision.
The hotel room itself to me is very amusing. I rarely had this feeling whenever i checkin to oversea's hotel, but this feel is just nice. Very cozy and comfy. And we even made a noobish talk about how the name of mom appeared in the tv. After getting the stuffs unpacked and clothes changed, we headed down to see what they have. And boy was i amazed. Did i mentioned it was huge? And me being a bread guy who can't live a single day without it, began searching if there's any. And i bumped into breadtalk, which i deemed was the best bread shop i had ever been into. Far superior to what i had back home. It is nowander why everyone recognized sg and not my home country, because everything is just perfect. Everything all the way to the transportation system. I see why now, that the best device wouldn't launch at my home country first because it just couldn't compete. I had thought breadtalk was only available in rws, well because the noob in me i had only came here on landing and not elsewhere in sg. I would take alot of it, because i thought it can't be savored after i leave rws. But hey, it was also available outside, and at a cheaper price. Haha. And if i convert, the price is normal in rws, and even cheaper elsewhere, compared to back home. Beat that. Later on i discovered that someone tried to copy the name and changed it to breadstory or something like that with the type of bread closely similar to breadtalk. Speaking of not wanting to live in MY, yes i do have the thought of flying away. Seriously.
I walked abit further and discovered other places to have snack and it is all very interesting. Of course it wouldn't be it if i don't walk all the way to USS right? So we just walked there and have a sneak peek at the place to see. It was very late already by that time so we could only checkin uss by tomorrow morning.
Fun @ Universal Studios Singapore
Welcome to Universal Studios Singapore! The closes to Universal Studios theme park I can go to from Malaysia is of course located in SG. And what a fun and eventful holiday trip I ever had!
Day 1
It was a Chinese new years' holiday and my family had planned to travel overseas so we began discussing what places we hadn't visited. At the same time, my mom had managed to get her hands on a discount coupon because of the genting world card.
The more I use the genting world card, the more reward points I can gather, and there's a handful of places that this card can be swiped for points. But this is a long process and because it's being used to trade for staying in resort world singapore, it takes a significant amount deducted. The card however is from my aunt, and her family spends alot, and travel alot, so the points she had gather is quite huge. But since they didn't use it, my mom just asked her if we can use her card to spend on the resort world sentosa. Of course, initially we wanted to book a room in hardrock hotel but it was already packed, so we had no choice but to stay in the one just a few walks away. Although it is smaller, it isn't terribly bad. 5 of us have to find our way in that one room, and there is one lacking bed so my bro decided to sleep on it.
So after we did the booking and stuff, we of course searched for a flight and we used air asia. It is the cheapest flight there compared to some. And the day before, the usual me began to pack the gadgetry because this place cannot go by without those. This time round however, I decided to take the video camera which is a camcorder, while i leave the photography part to my brother. I assumed we were going to walk around quite abit and the camera is a little too heavy for me and it's becoming a burden. The camcorder is quite tiny in size and i wanted to get myself into videography so i took that. I slipped in a few memory cards in there, and this time i had a 32gb sd card so it should be enough for the entire trip.
In the morning itself, we then took a taxi which is a friend of my dad, and headed off to the airport. The earlier the flight the cheaper it is, but man it sure is tiring. As usual when we are at the airport the first thing is to eat and we always chose mcd because it is somewhat the easiest and more convenient. I'm not a fan of long flight because there's not a whole lot of things to do on the airplane. Except this time round, I brought my ipad and loaded it with kdrama. Now i wasn't a fan of kdrama at all, but because of the curiosity of why kdrama is the preferred tv shows to watch rather than other languages, i took it up one day and the 2nd one was secret garden. What about the first one? It was a long time ago and it was a very sad tragic love story and it goes by the name of autumn in my heart. Since then my impression of kdrama was always negative being that they like to turn the characters into sad and separated. But it all took a turn when years later the 2nd one i picked up made a difference. Only then did i realized that is how it is shown. Every race has it's own set of culture and personality and i began to adapt towards the K culture.
Day 3 @ PG road trip
Day 3
And here comes the oh jien! Depending on where, the spelling of it is often changing. It's written as ou jien, o jen, or jien. what have you. Yes, fried oyster is the direct translation of it. Now how is it that fried oyster comes in a plate full of it, without any other thing you ask? That's the specialty of it, when it is fried with egg and certain sauce, it just taste delicious. You probably wont find this anywhere else except Malaysia. At least for the way it was prepared.
Another day, another food hunting. We ate so much in so few days, that i get the feeling i'm gonna fall sick. And true enough, i did. LOL. And everyone jokes about it, saying i always fall sick whenever i go for a trip. In fact, there was a time where i fell sick just when we reached ipoh for the pizza, and i didn't get to enjoy it. What a bummer. But ya, i'm just not a roadie guy, and i completely didn't know there's medication to take to counter the car sick thing.
We woke up in the morning, and asked them where to eat. So they brought us to a roadside stall that sells simple breakfast. By the time we were there they had nothing much left, speak about always being late. After that we headed for their church, and it was quite interesting. It was good that they adapted it quite well there. Right after service, the regular members greeted us and asked us if we were staying here for how long. Then we ask them if there is anything interesting that we might have missed out. Well in fact our old friends asked them because they still weren't very familiar with the local food yet. They pointed out the fact that it's a wrong timing we were here, because they have the best of durians of all places. I for one wasn't very fond of the smell of durians, but back then when i was small i used to like it. The best part is the inner shell where my dad used to put some water and then drink from it.
He told us there's places where we can eat the very famous CKT and few other places. We then depart from there and headed for the CKT that always appears in blogs. After we've tried it, we came to the conclusion that it was overrated. Like way overrated. For one, the price is expensive, and usually for local food, expensive doesn't mean that it taste good. Later on, we went on doing other things, and met up with our girls. Well, their girls, that is.
