Char Kuey Teow & Tea

Char Kuey Teow & Honey Lemon Tea
Char Kuey Teow is one of my favorite dishes in Malaysia. If you visit here, you can not just not eat it. Of course, the most famous CKT is not anywhere near the southern part, but in Penang itself. Whenever i visit Penang, this is one of the dish I always call upon. Amongst many other type of food.

But of course, i do not always visit Penang on a frequent basis, so i had no choice but to opt for my local area's CKT. The basic ingredient of making it is pretty much the same, so it taste similar. And for some reason i've grown accustomed to the taste in my local area because, well, my taste buds are building familiarity.

You can find lots of CKT outside of Penang, and they will still call it Penang Char Kuey Teow. Obviously they, the cooks, probably came from Penang. But, even though we are so near to each other, the way they cook is different from the original. Especially in the Klang Valley, it is darker, like being drenched in black sause, and the taste is stronger towards being salty. Some are very very salty and just avoid those.

Just like Chicken rice, they always seems to come from Hong Kong, Char Kuey Teow will always bear the name Penang. But both of them are very different in taste. Over in Penang, it has a much lighter color and definitely less salty. Not to mention the price, although it is ever increasing, it is the cheapest CKT in the whole of Malaysia.

In one of the shops, I've decided to order along together with a cup of Honey Lemon tea. The combination seems a little bit strange, and yes it is a little bit strange. It was to sooth my throat after eating oily and fried stuff, so it serves it's purpose.

Sometimes a simple dish of Char Kuey Teow is more than enough to fill up my stomach during non lunch hour. I guess you could call this tea time and of course tea is served together. The ambient of this place is also quite nice, sort of like a no-hurry tea time.

I've used some special effects for the photograph and it appears to be quite, unique. As though it was a small tiny cute portion made for kids. Speaking of effects, i'm getting quite fond of using it on the phone compared to PC, because it is just so much more convenient. The phone itself is pretty powerful already, so editing it was not much of a hassle. There is so much of effects to play with, like vintage, dark tone, bokeh, and my favorite part is the minify which was used here. Of course on the PC, there are more range of tone you can adjust with, something that PS can offer. If you load in some plugin, it's even simpler to do it. I've used bokeh to fake depth of field before and it works quite well. Although, it is not easy as it requires lots of strokes and manual adjustment. Still can't beat a real f1.8 lens nevertheless.
