Scaling Bukit Tabur

I still remember this part. Apparently someone marked it or it was some sort of a no entry line but people just cut it off. Well this is one of my favorite pass time hobby. Woul'dnt call it sport, but maybe you can call it a type of sport. Mountain Climbing !

The day started off pretty much the same, except the feeling of going to climb a mountain is just tad good. Luckily for me again, I'm not one of the drivers, because if i am, we'd not be climbing, or doing anything at all for the day. You see, I'm somewhat a road blind person, and by that i mean, i don't know my way around the road. Even if i have been there many times, the path of road i take, i just couldn't remember it. Strange I know, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to remember it. There was even one time where I had to head home after a meeting, and the distance between it and my house isn't very far, but I ended up taking a wrong way, and end up at the very same traffic light, but at the next one, because i was trying to skip the heavy jam. What a joke ! Whenever I tell this story, everyone just laught about it, and say how can it be? That's almost impossible but guess what? That's how it is.

On to the Mountain journey, I got up and pack my stuff, and as usual it's all filled with gadgets. This time however, I have a much better camera ready to take a better picture. DSLR baby! Now, packing the dslr wasn't the very best idea for this kind of sport, but me being the eager to take good photo type of guy, it just didn't seem like a choice. So i grabbed those fully charged batteries I put all night last night, and slot it in the camera, switched it on to test, and it's all good! I unplugged my fully charged phone as well, and at the same time thought, would it be possible to even use the phone up in the mountain? You know, now we are going to be high up, and might be even higher than the antennas. So it'd be a miracle if  the signals even reached up there. Apparently it did, and I'll tell you a funny thing in a bit about my phone.

So we drove all the way to find a place to eat, and making sure we are not too full, and continue heading up to the mountain. The thing is I did not do any research whatsoever about this particular mountain, and i thought it was the same ol bukit gasing. That one, was easy peasy pie. Well not exactly, but compared to this one, it is. We unpacked everything from the car, carry what we need, and grabbed my heavy camera.

I felt it's going to be a burden, and true enough the camera gave me a hard time. I din't have a very strong shoulder to begin with, and yet i am going to carry such an equipment. The rest of my friends kept asking, am I ok? Do you need help? And i was like being cool, nah, i'm good. Climb and climb, stopping by occasionally to take pictures that isn't very breathtaking, our tour guide friend said, there's nothing to take at this level of height! And so i kept it in till we reach halfway.

Now the halfway point is the joke of my entire life. I call it the halfway point, because first thing is i am tired. My legs gave in I just couldn't continue. Secondly there is a path of cliff some sort that we need to climb. Not just walking, but climb, like using hand to climb. Rock climbing, at a very small scale. But to me, the challenge was quite great and i even have the camera and what not. So i decided to take a rest there. The rest of my friends just laugh, and we had a good laugh. They know i can't do it anymore, so they also left me at the halfway point. I told them, don't worry, i'll find a way to meet up with you guys, gave them my camera bag, and off they go.

While I am at the halfway point, I din't know what to do. According to them it's going to take another hour or so to finish the rest of the journey. I thought, ok maybe i'll just chill and wait for other stranger climbers to climb up to this point. You know, i could probably meet someoone or something, ehem, you know. As i waited, there was quite alot of people that passed by me. There was no interesting people, and quite alot of auntie uncles. Ajummas ! So i whipped out my phone to check and see if i can use the internet. And to my surprise there is connection ! The first thing i did was to checkin to foursquare and post it on fb saying i am sending this from halfway point on the mountain. Ha Ha. And then a few person commented, including some of my friends up top. That was hilarious. Well after surfing the net for a while I din't know what to do, So i continued headed down the way i came up.

Took me quite a while to reach back down, and there i saw even more people coming and getting ready to climb. Most of them were foreigners and i had to wonder why were there so many of them? Well it is public holiday but it's us that's having public holiday, not them. But on second thought, maybe they do this on a daily basis. Hey that's even more happening than locals. Playing with the phone was quite boring, so i walked around at the floor and got really bored. It took them 2 hours plus to finally reach down. And not all of them are down so i decided to see which way was it. And i finally saw the final couple coming down. They say it had a human traffic jam up there at a certain part. They say luckily i didn't continue because there was a tougher challenge right after and alot of people took alot of time to cross that part. Lot's of first timers it seems, or maybe the jam was really caused by our group. LOL.
