Enjoying Banana Leaf Rice

This was what we did after a full quarter day spent at the hill doing mountain climbing. Remember the post where I got really bored waiting for all my friends to reach the bottom, starting part of the hill? Yeah, and I was really hungry at that point too, and not to mention very thirsty. There was nothing nearby, not even a peddler trying to sell you something. You'd think there must be someone jumping at the very opportunity to make some quick and constant income by selling drinks for tired and sweaty people. But no. That is a very surprising thing because being Malaysian, that is something we'd do to take every inch of chance to make money. Haha.

Speaking of that, i suddenly had a 'lightbulb' moment. Why not I go and do it? Fantastic idea, goodness know how much i can rake in selling drinks to thirsty climbers. LOL. But there's also another part of being multi racial country. There is just certain things that we will not do, and leave that to others. Many reasons why we don't do what could be a possible source of income. One, is because it's very mafan(troublesome). Why mafan? Because we'd have to do everything by ourselves, ordering the drinks from a merchant and fetching all the barang-barang(goods) using our car and having to drive all the way there every morning to set up the stall. Which comes to the 2nd point, inconvenient. While this ain't a 9-5 job, it's at a wrong time. Wake up in the morning to do these kind of things? Nope, nope, nope. Thirdly, we then have to calculate the cost. How much do we buy per bottle? Discounts if we buy in bulk, and how much can we really sell per day to per person? Let's just say 1 bottle of coke is about RM2, the cost to buy it is at RM1.80, selling one bottle would only net me RM0.20. Just 20 cents? Ok lah, then comes counting for head. Averagely there might have been 100 climbers, for example. Then out of 100 climbers only 10% decides to buy a drink, because the rest are smart, they brought their own drink. So I can only sell 10 of it at the profit of 20 cents. 200 cents a day. WOW. Look ma, i'm rich! Even if in my dreams, i multiply the climbers by 10, that would mean i make about 2k cents. Err, RM20. GReat.

So yah, back to reality, no. That's why not everyone will just jump into this bandwagon of earning income as a street peddler selling drinks. Count me as fortunate, that i don't have to work my bum out to get this much of pay. Ok, so the other thing that i didn't do which boggles me is that, i didn't take the car key from my friends. Ya of course i didn't expect them to come down 2 hours later, but precaution step should be taken regardless. Lesson learnt. One of my friend came down first, and drove to the nearest place that we can buy drinks, while waiting for the rest to arrive. We can't find a petrol station, so we stopped by a mamak and bought some ice cold drinks. Their price are always slightly more expensive than elsewhere, and we were too thirsty so no choice lo, just buy 2. Upon reaching back he took a pretty hard turning and hit the side road divider. Haha. Wasn't expecting that because he's a pretty skilled driver. Guess it was the heat. Yes just blame it on the heat.

After we finished wiping the sweat out. We drove out to find some food. The best place to eat after such tiresome activity, is of course a place with aircond. But in this case, a mamak also would do. I was prepared to spend, but on the scale like this, mayb it's just abit too much. We sat down, and they layed the banana leafs infront of us on the table. As rice began to be served at first for everyone, when it comes to me, i told them to stop at one scoop. No, it's not being stingy, but i never really finish the rice they gave anyway. So it's called no wastage. Heheh. Now the best part of eating banana leaf rice is the fried stuff they give. Just Oh So Delicious. I'd just take that and call it a day, but of course not forgetting the curry chicken and mutton and beef. The end of an awesome day, with awesome food, accompanied by awesome friends. Meaningful and productive day i would say. Till next time, hoping such adventure will happen again. I can still dream.
